What is Transcription? – Definition
Transcription is the process of synthesis of molecule of mRNA from a DNA template.
In the transcription process, only one strand is actively used as a template it is known as the sense strand or template strand; the another complementary DNA strand which is not used, is called the nonsense or antisense strand.
Site and Time of occurrence of Transcription
DNA is actively transcribed in a region of the nucleus called as nucleolus. It takes place during interphase and continues up to prophase of cell division.
Process of Transcription
Various stages through which transcription process completes are given at Transcription Process.
Various ways for Measurement and Detection of Transcription are as follows
- DNA microarrays
- In situ hybridization
- Nuclear Run-on assay
- RT-PCR
- RNase protection assay and ChIP-Chip of RNAP
